ABOUT US BAND

The name Strong Learning is made up of two acronyms which are the core mission of STRONG Learning, and that is to foster emotionally, socially and cognitively strong students in school and beyond.

STRONG – Self- esteem + Trust + Responsibility + Options + Needs + Goals
These six factors are critical to promote emotionally and socially strong students.

LEARN – Level – Engage – Activate – Rehearse – Neural Change
These five factors are critical to promote cognitively strong students.

Dr. Linda and Dr. Al, have helped literally thousands of kids achieve school success by helping them learn-how-they-learn including overcoming anxiety, attention deficits, learning disabilities and other obstacles that can prevent learning on their way to academic success. They achieved this through their tutoring and test prep company and their educational products.

It all began in 1966, when Linda and Al started a tutoring company. In 1976, they began writing for the educational market and soon produced the Creative Thinking Workbook series which sold over a million copies. This was the start of Silbert & Bress, Inc.–the publishing company they created to support their mission to help all children succeed by respecting each one’s uniqueness. Silbert & Bress, Inc became Strong Learning, which publishes their educational books and games, and runs their private tutoring and test prep company.

Dr. Linda’s specialty is educational counseling, and Dr. Al’s specialty is physics and math. He is the graphics artist who produces the Strong Learning resources. The Silberts have two children and four grandchildren.

The Strong Learning Reading Program

The Strong Learning Reading Program is an organic reading program because it follows the natural way children learn best and that is through play. Developed over a period of almost 30 years of working with children and youth who are struggling academically, the components of the program are based on research-proven common-sense strategies including the Orton-Gillingham approach. Tiger Tuesday, the main character, and his family are the central characters in the program who bring each story to life.

Bessie’s
Pillow

bessies pillow

Bessie’s Pillow is almost every American’s story because America is made up of immigrants who came to America for their own reason. They passed their stories of struggle and triumph down to us, their children and grandchildren. One of those immigrants, Bessie Markman left Lithuania in 1906—alone—at the age of 18. Written in first person, Bessie’s Pillow grabs you from the very first page and puts you in the story with her—based on the life of Linda’s grandmother.
