RHYMING FOR PRE-READERS Practice Pack – T599A
This Practice Pack provides rhyming activities that help pre-readers with phonemic awareness, the ability to manipulate the individual sounds in words. This is a cridical skill for learning to read.
Rhyming also helps pre-readers learn about word families, a group of words that end with the same sound. For example, the word family -at includes the words cat, bat, hat, and rat. When children learn about word families it helps them to recognize and decode new words.
It also helps them develop their vocabulary. When children hear and say rhyming words, they are learning new words.
Rhyming words can make reading more fun and engaging for pre-readers which may help to motivate them to read and to learn.
